What customers ask ChatGPT, by industry
Customers don't type keywords into an assistant — they ask a whole question,
with a place, a situation and a wish in it. Below are realistic questions for eight kinds
of business, and what to check first so the assistant has something to name you for.
How to use this page. Replace the brackets with your city and details,
ask each question several times on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity in a private window,
and note whether you are named and which sources are cited. The step-by-step version
is here. The checklists are starting points, not guarantees: what an
assistant relies on varies by country and by question.
Hotels, B&Bs and holiday rentals
Customers ask
- “Where should I stay in [city] for a weekend? Suggest three hotels.”
- “A family-friendly hotel near [landmark]?”
- “A quiet B&B in [area] with parking?”
Check first
- Your website says, in text, what you are, where you are and who you suit — families,
couples, business travellers.
- Name, address and category are the same on your site, on booking platforms and on maps.
- Recent reviews have replies. In our Italian study the simplest question — which hotels
are there in this town — was the one where hotels appeared least
(figures).
Restaurants and cafés
Customers ask
- “The best [cuisine] restaurant in [city]?”
- “Where can I eat near [landmark] tonight?”
- “A good place for a quiet dinner in [area], not too expensive?”
Check first
- The menu is readable as text on your website, not only as a photo or a PDF.
- Opening hours match everywhere — site, maps, review platforms.
- Your cuisine and specialities are written out in words a customer would use.
Dentists, doctors and clinics
Customers ask
- “Who is a good family dentist in [city]?”
- “Where can I get [treatment] in [city]?”
- “A clinic in [area] that speaks English?”
Check first
- Each treatment you offer has its own clear description on your website.
- Practitioners are named, with their qualifications.
- You are listed in the professional directories patients in your country actually use.
Lawyers, accountants and consultants
Customers ask
- “An accountant in [city] who works with small businesses?”
- “Which lawyer in [city] handles [issue]?”
- “A consultant for [problem] who works in [language]?”
Check first
- Practice areas are stated plainly, one page or section each, not hidden in a PDF.
- Your listing in the professional register matches your website.
- Articles, interviews or talks by you on other websites — assistants lean on what others
say about you.
Salons, spas and fitness
Customers ask
- “The best hair salon in [area]?”
- “A spa near [landmark] for a day visit?”
- “A gym in [city] with classes in the evening?”
Check first
- Services and prices are on your website as text.
- How to book is obvious, and hours are consistent across platforms.
- Reviews mention the services you want to be found for.
Courses, schools and trainers
Customers ask
- “Where can I learn [skill] in [city]?”
- “An online [topic] course in [language]?”
- “Who teaches [tool] to business owners in [country]?”
Check first
- Every course has a page with topic, level, language, format and dates.
- The teacher's name appears on other sites — partners, press, event pages.
- Your course is described with the words a learner uses, not only its brand name.
Real estate agencies
Customers ask
- “A real estate agency in [city] for long-term rentals?”
- “Who can help me buy a flat in [district]?”
- “An agency in [city] that works with foreigners?”
Check first
- The districts and property types you cover are written out.
- Your agency appears, under the same name, on the listing portals people use.
- Languages spoken and services for foreign clients are stated.
Local shops
Customers ask
- “Where can I buy [product] in [city]?”
- “A shop near [landmark] that sells [brand]?”
- “The best place in [city] for [category] gifts?”
Check first
- Product categories and main brands are listed on your website as text.
- Address, hours and contact details match everywhere.
- Local press or blogs have mentioned you — and you link to them.
